Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah, Author Paulette Harper to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my sistah :-). Are you ready?
Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?
PH: As an inspirational and fiction writer, I write to inspire and empower readers. I write because I feel I have a message to share with readers not only to entertain readers but to help them grow spiritually. I love to mix real life stories into my fiction. Although each story is unique, we experience some of the same feelings, situations and challenges in life in which the reader can identify.
With the ability to craft fiction books, it gives me the opportunity to live through each character. I’ve been blessed to write in several different genres: Christian fiction, nonfiction and children. Although each genre is unique, I enjoy them all. Developing a craft for writing is an ongoing process. I’ve been able to gleam from so many others. I read books which help me learn the craft as well.
When I pen a non-fiction book, I can go deep into my soul and the soul of the reader. My non-fiction books come from my own personal life experiences, research and biblical studies. I try to connect with readers in a place where the words in the book can leap off the pages and bring about a spiritual change as well as spiritual growth. Everyone needs to be inspired, empowered and strengthen in every area of their lives and this is where my books are able to touch the readers.
Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?
PH: My publishing house is called, Thy Word Publishing. Currently I’m only publishing my own books.
Slyce: In what genre do you write?
PH: I write in three genres: Christian fiction/Inspirational fiction, children and Christian nonfiction.
Slyce: Have you penned under another name?
PH: Since I’ve been writing, I have never used another name. I probably would if I ever wrote in Contemporary Romance. LOL.
Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “Secret Places Revealed”. What was this book about?
PH: “Secret Places Revealed” is my first full novel. It also is the 2017 Romance Slam Jam Emma Award Winner for Best Inspirational/Spiritual Romance. Winning this award brought so much excitement in my life.
Okay, what is “Secret Places Revealed” about? Here’s my blurb:

Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?
PH: Yes. “Secret Places Revealed” is a stand-alone novel.
Slyce: How important are reviews?
PH: To any authors, we need them, want them and can’t do without them! Reviews are what encourage other reads to buy our books. Reviews get other readers interested in and wanting to add new author’s books to their library. There is nothing more important to an author except reviews, with the exception of readers buying their books.
Slyce: What goals would you like to achieve as an author?
PH: As an author, some of my goals are to study the craft so I can be the best writer I possibly can, attend writing workshop to help enhance my skills and to be a full time writer.
Slyce: What advice would you like to share with aspiring authors?
PH: I’d tell aspiring authors to make sure they do their research about the industry, to be patient with the process and don’t publish something so quickly that they bypass good professional editing.
Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?
PH: I write for both!!! I love writing books but I also love it when I see readers purchasing my book as well.
