Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?
JM: ∞ It was my friends who inspired me to become a writer. As a teenager, I wrote hundreds of short stories as a hobby. It was an adult I came upon one of the stories I wrote when I was 16 years old. I showed it to my best friend who loved the story and encouraged me to get back into writing. I decided to rewrite that story but with modern twist. It was three months later that the story of “Infinite Love” was born.
Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?
JM: ∞ The name of my publishing company is Jeanine Worldwide, LLC
Slyce: In what genre do you write?
JM: ∞ My book genre is African American / Urban Fiction / Women’s Fiction / Romance
Slyce: Have you penned under another name?
JM: ∞ I have never penned under another name.
Slyce: You wrote a book titled “Infinite Love The Pursuit”. What was this book about?
JM: ∞ “Infinite Love The Pursuit” encompasses love, friendship, passion, drama and hearts intertwined. The story is about the lives of five fabulous friends (Misty, Charmaine, Nickelle, Toya and Jasmine) and their struggles as modern-day women dealing with life and relationship obstacles such as infidelity, incarceration, shady love triangles, and domestic violence—all set in Manhattan, where anything goes.
Slyce: Is the book a series or a standalone?
JM: ∞ This book is part of the Infinite Love Book Series. The first book is “Infinite Love The Pursuit”. The second novel of series is “Infinite Love The Impact” which is also available in paperback or E-book on Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
Slyce: What does the term “Building a Brand” mean?
JM: ∞ Building a brand means to me creating an illustration to be used to represent my company that will also be used by a person to associate themselves to my products.
Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?
JM: ∞ I have developed a logo, a website and use the different avenues of social media to promote my message.
Slyce: How did you feel when you first saw your material in print?
JM: ∞ The first time I saw my material printed I grew excited. When the box arrived I tore it open, but when I opened the draft book the print inside was way too small. I wasn’t totally disappointed because I knew I was that much closer to a final.
Slyce: Do you feel a new author should have a “Team”?
JM: ∞ I would recommend a new author have at least an editor on their team.
Slyce: What was one of the biggest mistakes you made as a new author?
JM: ∞ My biggest mistake was not knowing the business and relying on others experiences vs. their expertise.
Slyce: What advice would you offer to those aspiring to become an author?
JM: ∞ My advice to aspiring authors is to write, write, write and then find yourself a good editor.
Slyce: What goals would you like to achieve as an author?
JM: ∞ My goal is to one day see my book series on the big screen or as a television mini-series..
Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Jeanine Mayers?
JM: ∞ Yes, the third and final installment of the Infinite Love Book Series “Infinite Love The Collision” is coming soon. I also have a great game for adults “The Absolute Honesty Card Game” coming soon.
Slyce: What was the first urban book you’d read and how did it impact you?
JM: ∞ The first urban book I read was “The Coldest Winter” by Sistah Souljah. This book had a strong impact on me. To this day I believe it is one of the best urban fiction stories told.
Slyce: Name three authors you’d love to work with
JM: ∞ I would love to work with Mary B. Morrison, K’wan and Zane.
Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?
JM: ∞ I write for the passion but as a business woman I also have to be aware of the profit.
