Meet Author Fatima Munroe

Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our Sistah Fatima Munroe to “The Interrogation Room/IUrban” !! Welcome my Sistah 🙂 …what inspired you to become an Author?fmunroe profile pic

FM: After working in retail for a number of years, I decided to take a step out on faith and write. I prayed a lot while writing my first book, and hoped God would forgive me for some of the language used!

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

FM: Urban Chapters Publications, a subsidiary of Royalty Publishing House.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

FM: My primary genre is urban fiction, but I’m working on an erotic novel as well.

Slyce: Have you ever penned under another name?

FM: Not yet, but if I decide to publish my erotic novel, I might!

Slyce: You’ve written a book entitled, “Chi Towns Queen” – what was this book about?

FM: “Chi Town’s Queen” is a fictional urban Cinderella story, fast forwarded ten years. Imagine a young girl growing up in the hood, learning the in’s and outs of any and all criminal activity on the streets meeting a handsome billionaire who isn’t as innocent as he seems. They meet, fall in love, get married and live happily ever after, right? Well, not exactly. It’s a good story, very entertaining.

Slyce: Is ths book an e-book and/or a paperback?

FM: The Chi-Town’s Queen series are available in both e-book and paperback formats.

Slyce: Where can our viewers purchase your book?

FM: Fatima Munroe is currently exclusive to Amazon, all books and e-books can be found there.

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Fatima Munroe?

FM:  Of course! I recently completed an anthology with a few amazing authors from Royalty, Love, Betrayal and Dirty Money which is now available. The final book in the Chi Town’s Queen series, Chi Town’s Queen 3, will be available in September. I’m working on a sequel for Ain’t No Thug Like The One I Got, also available in September, and I’ve got another book behind the scenes, M.T.A.K., which I might drop either late September or early October.

Slyce: How important are reviews?

FM:  I enjoy the feedback that I receive from reviews, whether good, bad or indifferent. It gives me the opportunity to see what I’m doing right, and where I can tweak a thing or two. As an author, I tend to look at my work through rose-colored glasses, of course it’s an Oscar winning film to me! But seeing it through the readers eyes I can look at it for what it is, and I appreciate their feedback.

Slyce: How important are interviews?

FM: We’re all entertainers, whether it’s through performances or the infusion of the written word. Interviews are imperative in any work presented to the public for review. How else does the public know that an entertainer exists if no one has heard of them? The interview process gets that person’s name in front of the public in various formats, of which I, for one, am grateful.

Slyce: What does the phrase “learn the craft” mean?

FM:  Do the necessary legwork and take the time to master what you’re good at. Once you do, teach that knowledge to someone who may not know. Don’t be good, be great.

Slyce: What does the term “Building your brand” mean?

FM: Take advantage of any and all opportunities to introduce yourself to the world. Endure the struggle in the beginning and reap the rewards later.

Slyce: What steps of you taking to build your brand?

FM: Well, for one, this interview! Currently I’m the process of partnering with a few radio DJ’ s for airtime, and looking into magazine advertising as well. I take full advantage of social media, there usually is a link for at least one of my books almost every day in various book clubs, and I utilize Twitter, Google Plus and Instagram. Over the next few months, I plan to expand my genius to Pinterest and LinkedIn as well. Feel free to follow me on Instagram: author_fatima_munroe, Twitter: Fatima_Munroe, Facebook: Author Fatima Munroe, and Tumblr: fatimamunroe.

Slyce: What goals do you wish to achive as an Author?

FM: Often I’ve heard other authors make the statement, “I don’t want to be famous, I just want to write.” I want to be famous. I want to see my name roll in the credits at the end of the blockbuster hit of the summer. After it’s all said and done, I want my readers to be able to say, “I still have her first book, Chi Town’s Queen!”

Slyce: What advice would you offer to those aspiring Authors?

FM: Meditation has helped me quiet the chatter of everyday life and focus on the story. Don’t force the story, let your characters talk to you. As authors, we put ourselves out there for critique, and our readers are entitled to their opinion. Try not to take a negative review as the end of your career, dust yourself off and keep writing.

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or for the profit?

FM: Realistically, a little of both. I wrote my first book with the thought process of padding my savings account. Once I received a couple of positive reviews for my first book, I figured I owed it to everyone who inquired about when part 2 would be available.

Slyce: I’d like to thank guest Author Fatima Munroe for joining us in “The Interrogation Room/IUrban” !! Thank you my sistah 🙂 You were wonderfull !!
