Meet Author Zoey Truth

Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah Zoey Truth to “The Interrogation Room” !!! Welcome my sistah 🙂 . Are you ready?…

Slyce: What inspired you to become an Author?

ZT: I have always loved writing. I’ve kept a journal since I was 8. I always wrote short stories in there. In college writing the 10 page plus papers was my favorite thing to do.

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

ZT: I did “self publishing” through Author House.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

ZT: I write mostly Erotica.

Slyce: What excited you about your genre?

ZT: The freedom! You can create so many worlds for yourself. You can be the person you don’t have the nerve to be in an erotic book or you can share the things you’ve done and learned and try to help people feel comfortable in their own sexual skin.

Slyce: Have you ever penned under another name?

ZT: Not yet. I probably will at some point when I write something outside of the erotica genre.

Slyce: You wrote a book titled “A Good Girl’s Journal of Dirty Little Secrets”. What was this book about?

ZT: It’s about a woman’s sexual journey. She starts off as a virgin in college unsure of herself and whether she’s desirable. As she explores different experiences you can see her strength as a woman and as a sexual being. She sheds the social inhibitions and is really unapologetic about her choices and desires.

Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?

ZT: It could work as both. I could definitely see another series of short stories like the current book but if that was the only time I wrote about the character you wouldn’t feel like you were missing out on her life.

Slyce: Where can our viewers purchase this book?

ZT: You can buy it on Amazon.

Slyce: Is this book a e-book and/or paperback?

ZT: It’s paperback/hard cover and E-book.

Slyce: What tools have you found most useful in distributing you material?

ZT: Word of mouth from others and most importantly myself. Readers who enjoy the work tell others. That is something I had to learn.

Slyce: Name three Authors you’d love to work with?

ZT: I have to say Zane, Terry McMillan and James Patterson. Zane because she was the first erotic book I had the pleasure of enjoying. Her writing really transports the reader into the story. Kimberla Lawson Roby—She’s a very passionate writer. I experience a lot of emotion when I read her work. Terry McMillan–she’s the OG of contemporary black fiction writing in my book. She tells complex stories about things you can really relate to. Every time I finish reading one of her books I immediately want more.

Slyce: What does the phrase “Learn the Craft” mean?

ZT: Figure out the rules. Yes you may end up tweaking them to fit your style but you should have a good foundation. Figure out what your strengths are and really play those up as you work to build up the areas where you’re not as strong.

Slyce: What does the term “Building a Brand” mean?

ZT: For me it means trying to get readers/fans to recognize your style on sight. You’re trying to be the go to person when someone is trying to think of an author they love. You want to be on the brains of the people.

Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?

ZT: I’m trying to branch out more when it comes to talking about my book and what I like to write about. I’m trying to be better with social media. I must confess that is not a strong suit of mine. I still write my first drafts on paper. I’m also working on other exciting projects that work for my pen persona. Stay tuned for that!

Slyce: What goals do you wish to achieve as an Author?

ZT: I want to write to make people feel comfortable about being comfortable with themselves. I like to write to teach and open minds. Of course I would love to make my living as an author.

Slyce: Do you feel a new Author should have a “Team”?

ZT: Yes, because as a new author there are so many things I didn’t know. I feel like I would’ve benefited from having someone with experience provide guidance. I did enjoy the process of trying to learn things on my own…it was just a harder road to travel.

Slyce: What was one of your biggest mistake you made as a “New Author”?

ZT: I didn’t do enough to market myself and my work out of fear that my work wasn’t good enough.

Slyce: What advice would you offer to those who aspire to become Authors?

ZT: Don’t be afraid. I was so afraid of not being good enough in the beginning that I smothered my own works. If something isn’t the best it can be…you can try again. Next time you will be better.

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?

ZT: I write for passion. I would like to profit from it though 🙂

Slyce: How can our viewers contact you?

ZT: Email for sure zoeystruth@gmail.com. You can message me on my page. I also have an author fan page called Author Zoey Truth. I’m also on Twitter @zoeystruth. Instagram– zoey truth. I also write a blog that’s a mix of everything…erotic stories. Advice on things I believe most of us struggle with like making the first move with a guy.
