Author Yyanna Leigh Michaels

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

YLM: The name of the publishing company I am with is Snow Publishing

Slyce: How many books have you written and published?

YLM: I have written and published 6 books to date.

Slyce: How did you feel when you first held your published material in your hand?

YLM:When I held my first piece of published material in my hands, I felt the little girl in me become proud of the adult woman I had become conquering a dream I had for many years.

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “AMA ANGENI”. What was this book about?

YLM: 30-year old Lailah Monroe has just recently discovered that a form of cancer, that was once in remission, has returned. Urged to live in the moment, her close-friend, Kasey, encourages Lailah to indulge in a much-needed girl retreat at the beautiful Oconaluftee River Resort in North Carolina. Not fully sold on the trip, Lailah reluctantly agrees until she lays eyes upon the gorgeously captivating and mildly frustrating Gawonii; the powerful chief of the Anigilohi Clan. Mesmerized by all she encounters on the trip, she is soon led on her own Awakening of Power. This awakening would challenge the very foundation of her beliefs in mystical beings and creatures of the unknown…unearthing a gift that she could have never fathomed. What is the source of her power? Who is the source of her power? For what purpose must she bear the weight of this power? Join Lailah, Kasey, and Gawonii as ancient beings find their place once more and learn to heal and rule a land deeply divided by millennia-old wounds and rifts.

Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?

YLM: This book is a 8 books series

Slyce: In what city does this story take place?

YLM: The story takes place in a fictional town in North Carolina near the Oconaluftee River around the Smokey Mountains.

Slyce: Name two of the main characters

YLM: Two of the main characters are: Lailah/Ama and Gawonii

Slyce: How did you come up with this title?

YLM: I came up with the title doing research on the Cherokee culture after a dream I had. In the beginning of the book, I share a piece of that dream and I constructed a story around it. I had always wanted to write a fantasy based off the elements so I found during my research that the name Ama meant “Water” and Angeni was translated to “Spirit” or “Angel” fitting in perfectly with my dream.

Slyce: Who did the cover art?

YLM: The cover art was done by Ms. Nancy Zee… She designs beautiful fantasy covers and can be found on Facebook.

Slyce: Do you feel a new author should have a team?

YLM: It really depends on the person. When I first started, I did not have a clue nor the confident on what I needed to do to have my work read, accepted, and published. I was grateful to have been recommended to a wonderful team. Personally, I would recommend that a new author have a team that they trust to guide them in the beginning.

Slyce: What are the benefits of having a team?

YLM: The benefits of having a team is that a team can help writers grow their career. They can also allow the writer to spend most of their time writing while the writers team can help the writer with editing, marketing, deadlines, and keeping track of sales.

Slyce: What was one of the biggest mistakes you made as a new author?

YLM: Thinking that it was going to be easy to get people to buy my books!

Slyce: What does the word, “Learning The Craft” mean?

YLM: I feel that the phrase “Learning The Craft” means taking your time to perfect your talent. In the words of John C. Maxwell, Talent Is Never Enough. It is ok to be given this raw talent as a gift, but to be the best and to win at it amongst the thousands of other who have the same talent, you have not just depend on talent alone but to hone that talent to greatness… and sometimes mean taking a master class or two.

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?

YLM: I write for passion. I write to release. I write to entertain.

Slyce: What advice can you offer to those aspiring to become authors?

YLM: Never give up… and never fear criticism for it is a gift…it provides opportunity for improvement.

Slyce: What’s next for Author Yyanna Leigh Michaels?

YLM: What’s next??? I would say that completing the entire Ama Angeni series in print and placed in bookstores is what I am striving for next.

Slyce: Where can our viewers purchase your books?
