Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah, Author Tati King to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my sistah :-). Are you ready?
Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?
TK: I’ve always loved to write ever since I was a little girl. There isn’t a specific thing that inspired me to become an author but there are several people; K’WAN, Terry McMillan, Shannon Holmes, and Shameek Speight. I saw myself in these authors and knew that if they could make it then so could I.
Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?
TK: True Glory Publications
Slyce: In what genre do you write?
TK: Urban Fiction/Street Lit
Slyce: Have you penned under another name?
TK: No. I chose to write under my given name. Nothing compares to seeing your actual name on publications.
Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “A Gangster’s Girl”. What was this book about?
TK: This book is loosely based on my life and tells the story of a young girl who comes from a complicated home life and the decisions that she makes to escape that. Some of which land her in unavoidable trouble to say the least.
Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?
TK: This book is the first in a series of four.
Slyce: How important are interviews?
TK: I feel as if interviews are very important to the fans who want to know more about a book/s or just want to get to know me more on a personal level. I know whenever I read a good book, I always want to put a face to a name. I’m sure my readers feel the same.
Slyce: How important are reviews?
TK: Reviews are highly important to me. I like to hear how readers reacted to certain story lines especially ones I were unsure of. I’m all for constructive criticism as well and always take into account what my readers have to say. I strive to always do better and reviews assist me in that.
Slyce: What does the term, “Building a Brand” mean?
TK: To me building a brand means to build something solid that has longevity, is easily recognizable, but also something everyone wants. All of those things go into a building a good brand which is exactly what I want for myself.
Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?
TK: Part of branding is branching off into other venues so your name/company is continuously recognized. Therefore, I have my hand in other projects along with writing.
Slyce: What goals would you like to achieve as an author?
TK: My ultimate goal is to turn my work into a film.
Slyce: What advice would you like to share with aspiring authors?
TK: Do it. Don’t hesitate, just do it. Write your truth. Real life has always been the greatest inspiration for a good story.
Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Tati King?
TK: Yes. A Gangster’s Girl 4. Flame 2. As well as a whole new project which is currently untitled.
