Author Shardae

Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?

Shardae: Growing up, I always read books all the time (mostly erotic ones lol) , I told myself one day I was going to write a book and people were going to be reading my books… Years later by God’s grace, it happened.

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

Shardae: As of right now I do not have a publishing company. I am a independent author.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

Shardae: I write romance urban fiction. I have a 1 year old daughter and I’m always reading her books to her. By reading to her I think in the near future I’m going to write a children’s book.

Slyce: Have you ever penned under another name?

Shardae: No, no penne name

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “Chances”. What was this book about?

Shardae: “Chances” is about a young woman name Ra’Keisha that grew up fatherless. All she ever wanted was to be daddy’s little girl. At twenty one years old she runs into her father, Andy. Days of joy and happiness follows, Keisha and Andy had a great connection. Suddenly the fairytale ended, Andy’s true colors began to show. Keisha was devastated, so she distances herself from Andy and his antics. Out of no where she was reunited with an old friend that turned out to be the man of her dreams. Things was good with Keisha and her man, but then trouble came knocking at the door.

Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?

Shardae: It’s a stand alone

Slyce: Is this book an audio, eBook and/or paperback?

Shardae: It’s paperback. I’m working on audio.

Slyce: How important are interviews?

Shardae: Interviews are very important that’s where people get a chance to know you, and you get a chance to interact with the people. It is also it a tool to market yourself as well as your work.

Slyce: How important are reviews?

Shardae: Reviews are very important, it opens the door for readers to let you know how they loved your work, or maybe not loved it so much.

Slyce: What does the term “Building A Brand” mean?

Shardae: Building a brand to me means pretty much everything. You market yourself and your work , and also creating an image for yourself.

Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?

Shardae: I use social media a lot! Since Covid I haven’t been able to do many book signings as much as I would have hoped to. I’m also trying to take advantage of as many promotions as I can. I’ve joined different groups on social media, and getting to know different people that I can learn from.

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?

Shardae: I’d say both! I love helping people and I believe this will help someone else that may be going through what Keisha went through! But profiting from it is always good.

Slyce: What goals do you wish to achieve as an author?

Shardae: I wish to help someone else. I know as long as I help someone then I know I’ve done my job. Chances is a book that talks about what many people today are going through, young and old. I also would want to make Chances into a movie, and become New York Times best seller! 😊.

Slyce: What advice can you offer to those aspiring to become authors?

Shardae: I would say just write! If you want it then go for it. The sky is the limit.
