Meet Author Santana

Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah, Author Santana to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my sistah :-). Are you ready?

Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?Author Santana

Santana: Well I read my first piece of urban literate around the age of 13. Maybe I shouldn’t have been reading adult books then but I was and I said “Wow, if I can write stuff like this, then maybe I will be a writer one day”.

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

Santana: Jessica Watkins Presents.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

Santana: Urban Fiction

Slyce: Have you penned under another name?

Santana: Nope.

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “She Was A THUG’S Weakness”. What was this book about?

Santana: It was about a young woman who was unhappy in her arranged marriage. She tried to stay faithful but after a while she gives in to her needs when she meets a handsome guy at an airport. This leads to several other affairs that all threaten to ruin her life and her chance at the fortune her father promised her when she turned 25. She has to develop a plan to ensure she comes out on top, even if it means murder.

Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?

Santana: It is a 2-part series.

Slyce: How important are interviews?

Santana: Interviews are necessary because it gives the readers a look at the author’s creative process, gives you information about them and of course you get to kinda meet the person behind the pen of a book you may have loved.

Slyce: How important are reviews?

Santana: Reviews are very important however they sometimes contain spoilers or can be biased. I think it’s best to read for yourself instead of relying whether or not you’ll read on reviews. I think they’re for the author’s viewing pleasure.

Slyce: What does the term, “Building a Brand” mean?

Santana: I think it is marketing yourself and what you stand for so that when people see or hear a certain tagline, they know who it is.

Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?

Santana: Well, I’m starting a podcast that is geared toward women’s empowerment. Everyone knows me on my personal page for being outspoken, fearless in the way I tackle sensitive subjects coupled with the ability to speak on things in a way in which people understand. I want to have both of those aspects be a part of my brand so during my podcast I will promote my writing and vice-versa.

Slyce: What goals would you like to achieve as an author?

Santana: I want to do a movie out of one or more of my books. I want to become a national best-seller and a household name.

Slyce: What advice would you like to share with aspiring authors?

Santana: Develop your characters and plot. Find a good publishing company. Stay keen by writing short stories. And don’t get caught up in no mess.

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Santana?

Santana: Absolutely. I have part two to “She Was A Thug’s Weakness” in the works, hopefully dropping October. After that, I will have a crime thriller called “Diary of a Womanizer” and several more that I’m still getting ideas together for.

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?

Santana: Both.

Slyce: Name three authors you’d love to work with.

Santana: Work with? If you mean collaborating on a book, I don’t want to work with anyone in that way. I don’t have all the details of how that even goes but I am sure I don’t want to. However, if there was like a collaborative where we all did a book with a theme, I’d be interested in working with Jessica Watkins, Keisha Ervin and Deja King. Their books inspired me a lot.

Slyce: Do you see your book on the big screen and who would play your main character?

Santana: I would play my main character because she is an extension of my subconscious and I don’t trust anyone else aside from Beyoncé herself to get her right.
