Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah, Author Naomi E. Jones to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my sistah :-). Are you ready?
Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?
NEJ: My friends. I had one that told me “If I don’t publish my poems she is going to redo it and add her name to it”.
Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?
NEJ: Blue Ram Publishing Corp.
Slyce: In what genre do you write?
NEJ: I write a lot about love, heartbreak. The issues within the African American community and people. Whatever comes to me, I will write it.
Slyce: Why this genre?
NEJ: It’s a part of me.
Slyce: Have you penned under another name?
NEJ: No, I am going to always use Naomi E. Jones. I am working on a spoken word cd, that will be under a different name.
Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “Love’s Heavy Heart”. What was this book about?
NEJ: Love, Heartbreak, sadness all the emotions that our hearts will carry.
Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?
NEJ: There will be a part 2 next year maybe in March.
Slyce: Is your book an eBook and/or paperback?
NEJ: It is both
Slyce: How important are interviews?
NEJ: Very. Interviews gain knowledge and exposure.
Slyce: What does the term, “Building a Brand” mean?
NEJ: I am taking this term as building my own work.
Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?
NEJ: People, Social Media. I am just starting and learning the ropes. I will make it happen. I feel it. I see it. I believe in it.
Slyce: What goals would you like to achieve as an author/poet?
NEJ: My short term goal is to publish 10 books by the time I am 50 years old. I think that I am starting off pretty good. I want to share my feelings to the world no matter how embarrassing, happy, angry, sad it may be.
When I write I had people ask me What’s the matter? Or Are you okay? At first I was annoyed but after a while I was like damn girl you are good if you have people believing.
What I write is not necessary about me or anyone in particular. It’s my imagination and some of it is about me or others. I know through my writing I am speaking to someone. Hopefully I can become the next Maya Angelou.
Slyce: What advice can you offer those aspiring to become an author/poet?
NEJ: Write, Read, Educate, Share. Just do it!
I have wanted to do this for a while now. One evening I just reached out to an author, Janae Stewart. I asked her how she did it? I never met her but we are friends on facebook and Janae took the time out and told me. That’s how I met Kim Stephens owner of Blaqrayn Publishing. After talking to Kim I just went for it. Again. Again and Again.
Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author/Poet Naomi E. Jones?
NEJ: Yes plenty. I am currently working on a spoken word CD then there will be a Love’s Heavy Heart 2. I am working on a novel so I will see how this goes as well. Lots of projects are in the works.
Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?
NEJ: I’ll admit the profit of course I can use. It’s more so the passion. I love to write. My mind wonders a lot. I feel I have the need to. It’s Therapy. It’s an escape.
Slyce: Name three authors/poets you’d love to work with.
NEJ: There are a lot of Authors and Poets out there that are Phenomenal.
Oh wow, I would love to work with Jill Scott, Mahogany Browne and this one may be far fetched, Omari Hardwick. They all may be but I would love to meet and work with them.
Slyce: Have you done blog talk radio?
NEJ: No. I am open to it.
