Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah, Author Mya to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my sistah :-). Are you ready?
Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?
Mya: My inspiration to become an author stemmed from my love for reading. I used to read many different genres, but noticed a lack of black characters in the novels I read. That inspired me to create my own books with characters that resembled people who looked like me and that I could relate to.
Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?
Mya: I am currently self-publishing. All of my books can be found on Amazon in eBook and paperback format. I will be branching out to different sources in the upcoming year!
Slyce: In what genre do you write?
Mya: The majority of my books are Urban Fiction. I have a Christian fiction novel and a paranormal romance novel. I like the idea of being self-published because I’m able to experiment in different genres. My current WIPs are another paranormal story and an action/thriller.
Slyce: Have you ever penned under another name?
Mya: Mya is my only pen name. I have been thinking about trying a new genre under a new alias, but that’s still being debated right now.
Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “Falling for Two Savages”. What was this book about?
Mya: “Falling for Two Savages” was my latest release about two twins seeking to avenge their parents death. Along the way, relationships are made. The book is filled with action, violence, romance and a few steamy sex scenes!
Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?
Mya: Stand alone
Slyce: Is this book an audio, eBook and/or paperback?
Mya: eBook and paperback.
Slyce: How important are interviews?
Mya: Interviews are very important. It’s a way for people to see someone in a more personal way. Interviews can be beneficial when fans can see and hear the passion that inspired a project. It’s a huge part of marketing and promoting and why so many celebrities make it a necessity.
Slyce: How important are reviews?
Mya: Reviews are extremely important, especially for new authors. Good or bad, reviews inform authors on what they did well, what the readers liked, and what they need to work on.
Slyce: What does the term “Building A Brand” mean?
Mya: Building a brand means creating an image you want to be associated with. The goal is to have a successful brand that will create a legacy.
Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?
Mya: I’ve been in the industry for over four years but few people knew my name because I was too shy to step out and get my name out. When I decided to become independent, I knew I’d have to rebrand myself to bring in new readers. So, I started interacting more on different social media sites, sharing my work through family and friends and making sure I stand out in the crowd.
Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?
Mya: I write from my heart. I learned from being under a publisher that if I’m not feeling a story neither will my readers! Writing is supposed to be fun for me and shouldn’t feel like an obligation or job.
Slyce: What goals do you wish to achieve as an author?
Mya: My main goal is to produce quality content that will be read and shared for decades! I want to be able to become so successful in my writing that I create generational wealth for my kids and grandkids. I want to be remembered as one of the greats!
Slyce: What advice can you offer to those aspiring to become authors?
Mya: Follow your heart and do your research! Traditional publishing and independent publishing both have their pros and cons! There are so many outlets and authors available who will help! Research publishers and read contracts carefully! Also, you do not have to write what everybody else is writing! Don’t be afraid to create your own lane! There is an audience for everything!

Mya: I currently have seven books published:

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Mya?
Mya: I have 2 books lined up for release in the early months of 2021! No dates yet, but these two stand-alone will be different! One of them is a paranormal romance that focuses on ghosts and wraiths! The other is called The Widow and will be an action/thriller novel!
