Meet Author Mo’Nik

Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah, Author Mo’Nik to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my sistah :-). Are you ready?

Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?Author Mo'Nik

Mo’Nik: I have always enjoyed writing stories and poems and songs. Writing fed my imagination and took me to another world that i could create and make perfect. It’s really just me doing something that i love doing and get joy from

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

Mo’Nik: Royalty Publishing House is the company that publishes my books.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

Mo’Nik: I have went #Bestseller in African American Women’s Fiction and African American Urban Fiction. I will be writing in multiple genres soon!

Slyce: Have you penned under another name?

Mo’Nik: As of yet, no. Just Mo’Nik, the apostrophe is important lol

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “Lovin A Gansta Ain’t Easy”. What was this book about?

Mo’Nik: Long story short, basically the main character is a highly sought after defense attorney who has a sex addiction in which she moonlights as an high priced escort to satiate. Another young woman from the same escort company needs a defense attorney and discovers her secret and of course uses it against her to get her way. So it’s all about book smarts versus street smarts in this book to see who comes out on top. Not to mention, the man that’s connected to both of them, one wants him and he wants the other….

Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?

Mo’Nik: The book in the previous question is the first book of a 3 book series. My most recent release, IN LOVE WITH DISASTER: A NOT SO BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY is a standalone for National Domestic Violence Awareness Month last month.

Slyce: Is your book an eBook and/or paperback?

Mo’Nik: Both!!! I sign and ship books all over the country!

Slyce: How important are interviews?

Mo’Nik: I think interviews are very important and I love doing them! I think that it’s a great way for readers to get to know their favorite authors in real life and not in books and gives them a chance to ask the questions they have always wanted to ask!

Slyce: How important are reviews?

Mo’Nik The most important! Myself personally, I value reader feedback, good, bad, one star, five star, idc! I use it to better and perfect my craft. Reviews help to bump or books in searches as well, the more reviews, the higher your book will be in a search.

Slyce: What does the term, “Building a Brand” mean?

Mo’Nik: I am my brand, Mo’Nik is my brand. I am building my brand. To me building a brand means getting your name and what you do out in the open for others to notice. Building a brand is when your name is dropped, people know who you are and what you do!

Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?

Mo’Nik: I’m always doing interviews on Facebook live and TV and radio, always promoting and marketing, always making new connections and meeting new people. I build great relationships with others.

Slyce: What goals would you like to achieve as an author?

Mo’Nik: I just wanna be successful *in my Drake voice* 😂 I want my name to be mentioned and for people to know me and say I love her books and she’s a great writer. I have done a few side pieces that I’m hoping leads to bigger things like writing for a major magazine like Essence!

Slyce: What advice can you offer those aspiring to become an author?

Mo’Nik: Don’t give up! I was in my 30s when I got my first book published. And if you want to be a publisher one day, you can do that too. Just don’t quit!

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Mo’Nik?

Mo’Nik: There is always something cooking in the lab for Author Mo’Nik! I’m always somewhere doing something, whether out in the open or behind the scenes. You’ll see an example real soon.

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?

Mo’Nik: Definitely the passion, the profit is the bonus. I enjoy writing, it makes me happy, it makes me calm, and I live to know what people think of the stories I tell.

Slyce: Name three authors you’d love to work with.

Mo’Nik: I’ve gotten close and made strong bonds with a few authors who I support fully and have love for. I would love to work with them, Krys Marie, Authoress Shanice, Author Jana Sullivan. This is just a few though.

Mo’Nik: I’ve been told that my books and story telling are screenplay material! I’ve had a few conversations about future endeavors so yes, one day.
