Meet Author Mickey Black

Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah, Author Mickey Black to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my sistah:-).  Are you ready?

Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?

MB: One day in 7th grade on my way home from school, I saw a bunch of kids surrounding someone’s trash digging through it. When I got close I saw that they were riffling through old magazines and books. I grabbed a few for myself and went home with them. When I got home I began studying the covers and just became enamored with the whole thing. From that day forth, I’ve always toyed with the idea of being a writer. Btw, the author was Jackie Collins, who’s books became my muse for all my work.

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

MB: I publish independently with Crave, Inc, my own company. However, I am proud to say I recently partnered with After Hours Publishing, which will release my first ever series

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

MB: I write erotic suspense. basically, I’m offering readers multicultural soap operas with explicit sex scenes. It’s a break from contemporary romance and urban lit.

Slyce: Have you penned under another name?

MB: Ha! My original pen name was Sincere, inspired by the character played by Nas in the good classic BELLY. I never published anything under that name. I now write under the name Mickey Black and no other names.

Slyce: You wrote a book titled “Dangerous”. What was this book about?

MB: “Dangerous” follows an estate lawyer desperately trying to escape her controlling husband. She uses blackmail as a means to get out, but his efforts back fire when she hires a private investigator and begins a sexual affair with him.

Slyce: Is the book a series or a standalone?

MB: “Dangerous” is a standalone.

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Mickey Black?

MB: I am currently working on Trogy, a mystery of sorts where everyone is a suspect and the killer is the least expected person of them all.

Slyce: How important are interviews?

MB: Interviews are integral. Gotta get the word out.

Slyce: How important are reviews?

MB: Reviews are even more important than interviews. They are the key to word of mouth.

Slyce: What does the term “Building a Brand” mean?

MB: It means letting people know what I’m about and being consistent with it. I do that by continuing to write and promote my work.

Slyce: What does the phrase “Learn the Craft” mean?

MB: Learning your craft means to study the masters and keep writing.

Slyce: What authors past and/or present had an influence on you?

MB: I like to think of myself as the literary birth child of Jackie Collins and James Patterson, but I have been influenced by Donald Goines, Penny Jordan and Zane as well.

Slyce: What goals would you like to achieve as an author?

MB: I would like to have the number one best selling African-American erotica novel on Amazon.

Slyce: Name three authors you’d love to work with.

MB: I already worked with Randy Coxton which was a pleasure. Maybe Kenya Rivers or KF Johnson Author.

Slyce: What advice would you like to share with aspiring Authors?

MB: Take your time, ask a lot of questions and keep writing.

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?

MB: To be honest, a little of both. I think writers all start out writing for passion, but nothing is more gratifying than having something that sells.

Slyce: Is Your Book E-Book And/Or Paperback?
