Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our brother, Author Marlon McCaulsky to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my brother:-). Are you ready?
Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “My Current Situation”. What was this book about?
MM: This book is about a group of college friends that are like family. When Rick and Danielle are engaged breakup it hit’s everybody in different ways. Rick ends up moving out to L.A. It’s not until years later when something tragic forces him to come back to Atlanta. A lot has changed over the years. Deja finds herself in a love triangle with Kurt and Jason and has to make a choice. Other situations pop up in the group and they all have to deal with it.
Slyce: Who are your main characters in this book?
MM: The cast LOL… but Rick and Danielle have the main storyline and also Deja, Jason, and Kurt have a big plot line in the book.
Slyce: In what city does this story take place?
MM: Well, the subtitle of the book is called An Atlanta Tale. So, for the most part, it takes place in A-Town.
Slyce: Were your characters based on people you know?
MM: Yes, sorta. All the characters are loosely based on the real-life actors that play them. It’s a group of friends I’ve known and worked with since 2012. The first project we all worked on together was a novel/independent film we did call, Used To Temporary Happiness. This was my way of doing a sequel with all of them that wasn’t really a sequel. I just put them in roles better suited to their personalities.
Slyce: Explain the relationship between Dani and Deja
MM: They are half-sisters and both have the same father. They have very different personalities and don’t get along with each other. They have to realize that they have more in common than they think.
Slyce: Was it difficult keeping each characters story separated in your head?
MM: No, not at all. I knew where each character was going.
Slyce: Was Mike justified in his actions toward Starr?
MM: No, not even a little bit. His sister Starr is a grown woman. He has to start treating her like an adult. Not saying he can’t look out for her but once she decides to be with somebody, mind your business.
Slyce: Is this book a standalone or a series?
MM: Well, it’s in the Atlanta Tale series of books. But this story is a standalone story. Although you will see characters from this book and other books pop up in other stories. Camoes.
Slyce: How long did it take you to complete this project?
MM: About six to seven months off and on. I started the book in 2012, put it down then picked it up a few years later and finished it.
Slyce: The character Jason; good guy or villain?
MM: Neither he’s Jason LOL… He’s not just some black and white character with simple motivations. He’s flawed but he’s also a friend. But he can be a dick when he wants too. He was my most favorite character to write.
Slyce: What makes Jason different from Kurt?
MM: They have different personalities and different opinions on relationships.
Slyce: How many books have you published so far? Name them.
MM: Wow… okay…

MM: Whatever one is the newest LOL

MM: Very much so. I write all my books with that possibility in the back of my head.
Slyce: Have you thought of writing a spin-off? Jason needs his own book 🙂
MM: Yes, but it wouldn’t be Jason’s own book. He’s a part of this group of friends and family. He needs them.
Slyce: Do you feel Ms. Sharon’s illness helped Rick’s current situation?
MM: Yes. In life, bad things happen but sometimes some good can come out of it. In this case, the good came with the bad.
Slyce: Do you believe in happily ever after?
MM: I believe people can be happy together until they die but you have to work on it. It isn’t just going to happen.
