KP: I stay ready!

Slyce: What inpsired you to become an Author?

KP:  I was an avid reader growing up and I just fell in love with the art of story telling. Sometimes it was even an escape.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

KP: I write contemporary fiction. A mix of drama and suspense with a little bit of street.

Slyce: When did you publish your first book and what was the title?

KP:  My first book was A Queen’s Checkmate. It was released January 2014.

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

KP:  I recently released my fifth book under Leo Sullivan Productions called “Lady Bang 2”.

Slyce: Have you ever penned under another name?

KP: No I’ve been Kierra Petty my entire career thus far, but who knows in the future.

Slyce: If you could choose three Authors to work wtih- who wuld they be?

KP: Omar tyree. Stephen king, Brandon Massey. I have more I’d like to write with like my literary sisters too.

Slyce: You wrote a book entitled, “Lady Bang- A Knock Out Story” – what was this book about?

KP: It’s a cautionary tale about a female boxer. It deals with her rise to fame and the trouble she finds herself in. Loving the wrong man. Losing focus of her mission. Stuff thay can really derail and ruin a person’s life. It’s a two part series.

Slyce: Is this book an e-book and/or a paperback?

KP: My books are in both formats.

Slyce: How did you feel when you first held your paperback in your hand?

KP:  It was surreal. I dreamed of being an author since a child, that was a big deal then. So to finally accomplish it was almost hard to believe. Especially considering that people I’d probably never meet could be enjoying my work.

Slyce: Where can our viewers purchase this book?

KP: amazon.com

Slyce: How important are interviews?

KP: Interviews are vital in getting the word out there and letting people get to know you.

Slyce: How important are reviews?

KP: They let you know what your readers feel. I believe as an author, you want to hear what your readers want.

Slyce: How receptive would you be to a bad reviews?

KP:  I’m been blessed not to have too many bad reviews, but I’d receive them in stride. I’m always down for constructive criticism and valid points will be taken into consideration and worked on.

Slyce: What does the term “building a brand” mean?

KP:  I would say it’s creating what you’re known for. It’s the definition of how people perceive you and the work you put in for people to see you that way.

Slyce: Are there any marketing tips you can give to the aspiring Author?

KP: Talk to the people. Keep books and flyers on you because you never know when you’ll run into a reader. Be creative with your promotion. I’m learning that variation is key.

Slyce: How important is it for a new author to have a team?

KP: It’s important to have a team in order to get your name and your work out there. You also need people on your team that know the game. It’s a lot to learn and if you can avoid mistakes by learning from people who have been there done that, then do so.

Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?

KP: Consistently putting out good work. Networking in multiple entertainment realms. Keeping it classy. Pretty much staying consistent and perfecting my craft.

Slyce: What is “Literary Ladies of the ATL”?

KP: The literary ladies are my family. My big sisters. My team. We held a blog talk show called Lit Ish where we interviewed and spotlit our fellow authors. We set out to show the literary grind while maintaining support for each other. Our bonds go past the literary industry. It consists of myself, Kenyetta York, Eboneē Oliver and Nika Michelle.

Slyce: What tools have you found most useful in distributing your material?

KP: Facebook, instagram, Twitter. Printing flyers and hitting the pavement. Networking. Having promoters. You have to really get out there.

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Kierra Petty?

KP: Something is always cooking!

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or for the profit?
