Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah, Author Karen Anderson to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my sistah :-). Are you ready?
Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?
KA: I was inspired to write because I wanted to tell stories in my own voice. I didn’t want stories that sounded like Anglo Saxon women or men. But people from my own experience.
Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?
KA: My company is UPP Creative Media. I publish historical fiction, mystery, sci-fi, and devotionals. Yeah, I know. I am not focused on specific genres because I am more focused on strong story.
Slyce: In what genre do you write?
KA: I tend to write across several. Fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, historical, romance, non fiction, Christian, etc.
Slyce: Have you ever penned under another name?
KA: No
Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “Destiny’s Dilemma”. What was this book about?
KA: “Destiny’s Dilemma” is the story of an African American woman who leaves the world where African Americans are making progress to go back home to take care of her mother in 1912 Fort Worth Texas. While her friends are forming the NAACP, she is challenged to defend a bigot.
Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?
KA: “Destiny’s Dilemma” is currently a stand alone book. I always leave the door open to add another book if I develop a full story.
Slyce: Is this book an audio, eBook and/or paperback?
KA: “Destiny’s Dilemma” is in paperback and eBook. It was written out of passion which is how I write.
Slyce: How important are interviews?
KA: No real measurement.
Slyce: How important are reviews?
KA: I love reviews because they let me know if the reader connected with the story. It tells me if there was something they could relate too.
Slyce: What does the term “Building A Brand” mean?
KA: Means that you’re focused in a certain direction.
Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?
KA: Not building one because I write according to what inspires me.
Slyce: What goals do you wish to achieve as an author?
KA: My goal is to tell stories in a variety of ways. I write books, screenplays, podcasts, whatever to tell a good story.
Slyce: What words of wisdom can you share with those who wish to become authors?
KA: My advice to new writers is to write about what you know. Research what you don’t. If you stick to what you love it it will always be a labor of love.
Slyce: Name three authors you’d love to work with.
KA: They’re dead. Lol
Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Karen Anderson?
KA: I am currently working on producing a short film based on one of my short stories.
