Meet Author Jock Phenix

Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our brother, Author Jock Phenix to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my brother:-). Are you ready?

Author Jock Phenix

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “Right Game Wrong N*ggah”. What was this book about?

JP: This book was about the streets and the consequences that come with them. Ultimately things do go wrong and women have to decide how long they gone ride things out when their man takes a fall.

Slyce: In what city does this story take place?

JP: Milwaukee, Wi

Slyce: Is this book an audio, eBook and/or paperback?

JP: My books are in eBook, and Paperback. I haven’t dived into the audiobook world yet.

Slyce: Name two of the main characters

JP: Major and Lira

Slyce: How long did it take you to complete this project?

JP: I actually wrote this book back in 2010 i want to say, and by pen and paper. After I completed my first 2 books, titled “Frenemiez” in 2015, I started working on this series the following year, but before I could finish it my truck was broken into and my laptop was in it, so I had to rewrite this book.

Slyce: How important are research?

JP: Very, very important. Once your book start to come to life, you want to add as much detail as possible so that the readers can feel like they’re watching a movie and feel it inside their body when they’re reading your book.

Slyce: What does the phrase, “Learn the Craft” mean?

JP: To me, its learning what you need to know in order to be successful. If you’re just relying on your talent alone, I think it’s going to affect your business in the long run.

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?

JP: I do it for both. I mean you start off with a burning desire, then you dive right in and start writing. But to make all this come to life you’re going to have to spend some money. And with you spending that money you’re going to want a return.

Slyce: What advice can you offer to those aspiring to become Authors?

JP: Don’t be so quick to sign to a Publisher. If you take your time you can actually self publish on your own. It’s just going to take some work. I say that because once your signed to “certain people” you may not know anything that’s going on with your sales and etc but what they are telling you. And you will still have to promote yourself and invest in yourself even after they publish your work. I mean after a week they may be onto the next thing and if you have no idea what’s going on then your project may just die and you become discouraged.

Slyce: How long have you been in the “Lit Game”?

JP: My first book was published in 2015

Slyce: How has the game changed since you first started?

JP: From my observation, its been cutthroat. I’ve seen so many people expose their Publishers that it don’t make any sense. And I seen on the marketing and promotion side that the old ways of doing things are not the same.

Slyce: What’s next for Author Jock Phenix?

JP: I’m working on Frenemiez PT 3 and will continue to work on my Frenemiez clothing brand.

Slyce: Do you feel a new author should have a team?

JP: Yes, even though I don’t have one. That’s something I wish I had too because you can only do so much by yourself.

Slyce: What was one of your biggest mistakes as a new author?

JP: Signing to a Publisher.

Slyce: You also wrote a book titled, “Frenemiez”. What was this book about?

JP: “Frenemiez” was about the dope game and how everyone around you starts off having love and loyalty with you but as time goes by all that changes and turns into jealousy.

Slyce: Can you see your books on the big screen?

JP: Most definitely. I wrote my books with that state of mind because I want my readers to feel like they just saw a movie when they close that last page of my book.

Slyce: Have you done any collaborations?

JP: No I haven’t.

Slyce: How did it feel when you first held your publish material in your hands?

JP: It felt unbelievable. Especially when you never envisioned yourself being a Author. When I told people I was working on my book I don’t think everyone believed in me. So once I had that book in my possession I just smiled for a long time.

Slyce: What marketing tips can you share with our viewers?

JP: To try to figure out how Facebook and Instagram ads work. They’re very helpful and can get you to audiences you wouldn’t be able to. But it’s not easy so I suggest you research before spending your money. Also get merchandise made so that when people see you they may ask you what is that on your shirt or whatever merchandise you post your book on. Also reach out to Facebook and Instagram promoters that specialize in that area, but once again do your research before you fork over your money.

Slyce: Where can our viewers purchase your books?

JP: They can either visit Amazon Books under my name “Jock Phenix”, or click here. Or simply inbox me.
