Meet Author Jocelyn F. Young

Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah, Author Jocelyn F. Young to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my sistah :-). Are you ready?

Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?Author Jocelyn F Young

JFY: I’ve loved writing since I was child. My siblings are all writers and so is my mom. I’ve known I’ve wanted writing to be a pivotal part of my life, but it wasn’t until I got into freelancing in 2010 that being an author felt possible. Once I realized how limitless publishing could be, I knew it would be my venue into being an author. So, I began to take active steps in bringing that reality to light.

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

JFY: Moody Writer Publishing, LLC.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

JFY: Paranormal Romance. Mostly Werewolf Shifters, but I’ve written other Shifters as well.

Slyce: Have you penned under another name?

JFY: Yes, I have a few pens I worked under before being brave enough to use my “real” name. I made some rookie mistakes with them too. A few I published under my company Moody Writer Publishing, LLC.

Mischa Tryst is the only penn name whose books I kept up. AA Lesbian Erotica and available on Amazon. I still hear good things about from readers. Even though, it wasn’t my best writing, and poorly edited. One day, I’ll clean the books up and re-publish them. I still have a few stories for that pen that I’ve been itching to get out!

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “An Alpha’s Second Chance”. What was this book about?

JFY: My latest release is “An Alpha’s Second Chance”. It’s book 1 in a serial with Book 2 currently slated for publishing mid-October.

It’s the love story of curvy human woman, Corrinne Snow and Alpha Werewolf Jarrod Hudson. Exes who are getting a much deserved second chance to be together. Only this time, their aren’t kids anymore. The stakes are high for Jarrod, as Alpha of his pack his mate is of extreme importance. Lately, the elders are getting restless with his lack of a suitable woman by his side. To compound matters, he’s never told Corrinne he’s a werewolf. Add in Athena, an Alpha WereWoman, who’s hell bent on making Jarrod her mate out of both revenge and brokenheartedness and there is a storm brewing.

Jarrod loves Corrinne. Corrinne loves Jarrod, but that doesn’t mean she’s willing to start over…

Slyce: Name two of the main characters in this book

JFY: Corrinne Snow is my heroine. Jarrod Hudson is my Alpha Wolf Hero. My Antagonist Athena, is An Alpha WereWoman.

Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?

JFY: “An Alpha’s Second Chance” is Book one in a serial. Book to will be out in Mid-October. You want to read them in order.

Slyce: Is your book an eBook and/or paperback?

JFY: I’m currently publishing eBooks only. My plan is to go into print in 2019.

Slyce: How important is research?

JFY: Extremely. I read as much as I write to ensure that if there is any trend out there I want to follow, I’m on top of it. Besides that, I love details in my work. I’m all about setting, character quirks, and personal touches. I love knowing. I use more of those skills in my debut release An Alpha’s Dream, than An Alpha’s Second Chance.

However, as I expand the story expect to see even more details come out.

Slyce: How important are interviews?

JFY: I struggle with my social media presence. I’m not a natural talker, and I get awkward in social situations. An interview I can handle. I already have some indication of the topics that will be discussed and it allows me the chance to be more natural. I like the idea of giving readers a feel for who I am and love even more that I get to talk about my favorite things-being an author and publishing. So, I do all the interviews I can whenever asked. Some I’ve even solicited because they held me to control the narrative around my work and my brand.

Slyce: How important are reviews?

JFY Reviews are what build careers. I’ve seen it happen time and time again. Positive reviews help to draw in the skeptical reader. It gives them a sense of what to expect. In a sea of self-published work, a great review is what separates authors from the pack and allows for better marketing. All authors can use a little help with their marketing. So, once you read An Alpha’s Second Chance- Book 1, be sure to leave your great review!

Slyce: What does the term, “Building a Brand” mean?

JFY: Simple. It means content and images that my readers can instantly identify as belonging to me. So, logos, and taglines, but also colors and image compostions. All of those things add to the reader experience.

Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?

JFY: For starters, I’m actively posting more on my social media. I’m not good at it, but I do it anyway. I’m careful about my content, and the things I like from my social media friends. My aim is to make sure that any reader or any one for that matter who finds me gets a true idea of who I am and what I stand for. I want my content to represent my values, but also draw in my readers to my work.

I’m currently having a new logo designed for other content creation such as my printable. I’ll be releasing in November on Etsy. And updating my website to include current work in progress excerpts and never published shorts. Be sure to sign up for my email lists for updates and exclusives.

Slyce: What goals would you like to achieve as an author?

JFY: I have a slew of goals as an author. My three primary goals are to become a New York Times, and USA today best seller, to achieve six figure author status, and to help others build their publishing careers through self-publishing coaching.

Slyce: What advice can you offer those aspiring to become an author?

JFY: 3 things learn the ins and outs of your genre. Set a weekly word count and hit that. Finally, Treat publishing like the business it is. If you treat it like a hobby, it will reward you with hobby benefits.

One more. Stay the course. Gaining traction can take soem time. Writing to an audience of one is exhausting, so in the beginning you may need to use a platform like Kindle Unlimited, where members can read your book for free. Seeing those page counts rise is proof that more than your love ones are reading your books. On some days, that is all you will have.

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Jocelyn F. Young?

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?

JFY: Both. Writing is my passion. I believe we all have a calling, something special that when we do it makes everything else melt away. That’s what writing is for me. However, I would not be able to devote the time and energy to it if I didn’t know the financial gains to be made. My husband and I have three daughters. We are still planning for at least one more child. I don’t have just because I love it time. I have because I love it, and it pays me time.

Slyce: Name three authors you’d love to work with.

JFY: Christina C. Jones, Phyllis Bourne, and Milly Taiden
