Meet Author Jenay Balderas

Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah, Author Jenay Balderas to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my sistah :-). Are you ready?

Author Jenay Balderas

Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?

JB: I’ve always had a passion for words. In middle and high school, I wrote poems almost daily. I studied English Literature in college. I just decided it was time to try something bigger.

Slyce: Have you ever penned under another name?

JB: Nope. Just Jenay Balderas.

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

JB: I’m currently under Miss Candice Presents.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

JB: Women’s Fiction and African American Fiction.

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “Wishing It All Away”. What was this book about?

JB: This is a back story on one of my characters from my first two books. People wanted to know why Karli was the way that she was. Most of my readers hated her but they didn’t know her story. She was molested by her step father and beaten by her mother because of it. It happens to often, so I thought that I should shed some light on the issue.

Slyce: Is this and eBook and/or paperback

JB: It’s an eBook and will be available in paperback soon.

Slyce: Is this a stand-alone or a series?

JB: I guess that it could be both. You don’t really need to read the first two books to read this story.

Slyce: Where did you grow up? Do you think this influenced what you write about?

JB: I grew up in Ft. Worth Texas and I do think it influenced my writing and the things that I write about. I’ve seen a lot so I express it through my writing.

Slyce: How important are interviews?

JB: I personally think that they are very important. They yield exposure and that’s what we are all looking for in this industry.

Slyce: How important are reviews?

JB: Reviews are basically reader feedback and you want to know what people think so that you will know how to evolve and what you need to work on.

Slyce: What does the term building a brand mean?

JB: To me, it means what do want people to see when they look for you. When they search for your books, what do you want readers to see.

Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?

JB: I’m still very new in the game. Right now I’m just focused on building and audience and loyal readers.

Slyce: What goals do you wish to achieve as an author?

JB: As cliche as it may sound, beside helping people through my words, I want to see that number one best seller badge beside my name lol.

Slyce: What advice can you offer to those aspiring to become authors?

JB: Stay consistent. That’s most important. And listen to the advice of the vets. Listen to the CONSTRUCTIVE criticism of your readers.

Slyce: Do you write for passion or profit?

JB: I write for the passion. I aim to write real stories for real people. And I hope that my words touch someone. Anyone.

Slyce: Name three authors you’d love to work with

JB: One day I hope to work with Tonglea White. Natavia. And maybe Queen T.

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Jenay Balderas?

JB: Definitely! I have a couple of things in the works.

Slyce: What was one of your biggest mistakes as a new author?

JB: Second guessing myself. Now I’ve learned to stay true to me and my own writing style. What works for others will not always work for me.

Slyce: Where can our viewers purchase your books?

JB: All three of my books are available on amazon.
