Meet Author Jason J. Codie

Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our brother, Author Jason J. Codie to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my brother:-). Are you ready?

Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?

JJC: I feel as though I’ve always been a writer or a storyteller of sorts. My recent inspiration came from my daughter, Amiya a few years back. I told her to write down her Christmas list for a Santa and she wrote me a short Christmas story instead. I recognized the talent in her and decided that it was better to show her what she was capable of instead of just telling her. She reminded me of myself at that age.

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

JJC: That’s to be determined and in the works. As of now, I’m an independent authors trying to learn the in’s and out’s of this business. I wanna make sure that I make the best decisions for me and my family. You know, just in case that golden goose lands in my lap.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

JJC: Urban fiction but I’m also looking to write something in Urban fantasy or sci-fi in the near future.

Slyce: Have you ever penned under another name?

JJC: No

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “A Hood Holiday: Tyler’s Christmas Adventure”. What was this book about?

JJC: It’s a romantic comedy about a young affluent white guy name Tyler, from up North, who decides to spend his Christmas holiday in the hood with his dorm mate and friend, Jayvion in the dirty South. As embarks on his adventure into unknown, he learns a lot about black culture and the principles in which they stand on. As his eyes are open to black culture and the holiday spirit of Christmas, he finds more than what he’s bargaining for when a girl from a different world grabs his attention. It has a little bit of everything in it.

Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?

JJC: Standalone

Slyce: Is this book an audio, eBook and/or paperback?

JJC: eBook and paperback

Slyce: How important are interviews?

JJC: Interviews are very important. It’s the gateway to interaction with your base.

Slyce: How important are reviews?

JJC: Reviews are very important. It’s a reflection of the product that you put out there for the world to read. It’s how we as authors judge ourselves. It’s one thing to believe that your great at what you’re doing but it’s another confirmation when an abundance of people say that you are.

Slyce: What does the term, “Building a Brand” mean?

JJC: To me, it means you’re building and marketing not only your work, but you as an individual. Your brand should be unique and represent only you and your body of work.

Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?

JJC: Research and promotions through social media. Interaction through book clubs and reading other people journey and experience. Investing in myself as much as possible without crippling my household.

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?

JJC: I’d say both.

Slyce: What advice can you offer to those aspiring to become Authors?

JJC: Be persistent. Believe in what you’re doing. Constructive criticism is a good thing. Last but no least, educate yourself about the business.

Slyce: What goals do you wish to achieve as an author?

JJC: I want the big screen. I want to see my work in movies, sitcoms, and tv shows. I mean what else is there to want? I think that’s every author’s dream.

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Jason J. Codie?

JJC: Yes, plenty of work stirring in the pot. But for now I’m currently working on Black Colombia 3 (Young Guns).

Slyce: Name three authors you’d love to work with.

JJC: K’wan, Ashley and Jaquavis, Zane, Kiki Swinson…I could go on.
