Meet Author Boss Lady

Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah, Author Boss Lady to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my sistah :-). Are you ready?

Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?Author Boss Lady

BL: I was inspired to write just as a hobby, not really thinking early on that I would be where I am right now. I wrote to express my feelings and it just blossomed from there.

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

BL: I am proud to be published by Blaqrayn Publishing.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

BL: I can’t yet say that I have a genre as yet. This first work is labeled as urban fiction. I don’t know yet what the future may hold for different works.

Slyce: Have you penned under another name?

BL: No other names. This is my only work and I am kinda liking The Boss Lady…I have often been called bossy so it kinda works.

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “Business Left Unfinished”. What was this book about?

BL: This is a labor of love. I started this book over 19 years ago out of being bored. I had just moved to Cincinnati, didn’t have any friends and was looking for something to do. My husband was in school and had a word processor and thats where it began. This story is about a few couples and the challenges that come with relationships. The stories are relatable to things we know of others in relationship or maybe even ourselves.

Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?

BL: I do plan to at least do a sequel to this story as I kinda left it open at the end. I don’t think I want to have a series just to keep the opportunity open for new characters and works.

Slyce: Is your book an eBook and/or paperback?

BL: This book is available in e-format and paperback on Amazon.

Slyce: How important are interviews?

BL: Interviews are a huge part of getting your work out. You have to be willing to talk to people and to listen when they talk to you. Interviews not only are for the authors but for the audience to learn about you. I believe that you can turn a person off or on by your tone, your verbiage and coming off to strong or not quite strong enough in some cases.

Slyce: How important are reviews?

BL Reviews are very important. They allow for your potential fans to be honest about your work. Although we are artist and can be sensitive about our work we have to take the good with the bad. There are things to be learned from negative reviews. It may seem negative it could be beneficial to not take it as an attack. Constructive criticism is not always pleasant but necessary.

Slyce: What does the term, “Building a Brand” mean?

BL: Building a brand means to me, that you are working to improve and better your best. You are working to make your name a household name that may be talked about over dinner and in various social circles. With that being said you want to make sure that your brand is an extension of you. It shows you at your peak and you continue to work and strive to keep that peak going.

Slyce: What goals would you like to achieve as an author?

BL: That’s a great question, I hadn’t thought that far ahead, as this is all new. I believe that part of me doesn’t want to get the big head as the term goes. I want to remain humble and just write. Do it for the passion and the pleasure not so much for the profit, but if I earn a few coins along the way then that’s good too.

Slyce: What advice can you offer those aspiring to become an author?

BL: The only words I have right now are to start, believe, and network. You have to start in order to finish. Once I finished this work I was soooo excited but I didn’t know if I was willing to open myself up to the criticism and reviews. As I stated we are sensitive about the works we create and while it’s good to me others may not see it that way. The belief is in the fact that you can write it and you can publish it. Doing the work is the best feeling. I had only thought to publish and get a few copies for my mom and for the living room table as a conversation piece. This that is happening now is so much more than expected and the journey thus far is awesome. Just in talking to people you learn things. I don’t even know how Ms. Bella Butterfly, LLC and I got on the topic of writing or sharing our stories but one thing leads to another and here we are. People don’t always want to share with others their works or projects for fear of being stolen or talked about (the naysayers) which cause us to sometimes not believe in ourselves. A lot of being great at anything starts with the belief that you are and that you can.

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Boss Lady?

BL: Yes, I have the possible sequel to Unfinished Business, and a project that will involve female superhero’s and how they work together.

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?

BL: I write for the passion. I can loose myself in my work and create a space and energy that is whatever I want it to be.

Slyce: Name three authors you’d love to work with.

BL: If I could dream, I would love to just sit in the presence of Zhane, Eric Jerome Dickey and Nikki Giovanni who is a Cincinnati native. I am a transplant from Cleveland but she might give me a pass.

Slyce: Have you done blog talk radio?

BL: I did my first radio spot with Tina Wright last week. It was a blast.

Slyce: Where can our viewers purchase your book?

BL: This first work can be purchased on Amazon through the kindle app or through paperback for the more conventional readers.
