Meet Author Asar

Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our brother, Author Asar to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my brother:-). Are you ready?

Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?Author Asar

Asar: I’ve always been storyteller growing up, but the inspiration came from my family because writing was a just hobby until my Momma found my notebook full of stories & told me, “You’re great and you need make the most of this gift.” Then in high school, I got the push from Electa Rome Parks & Author Ni’chelle Genovese and I got serious about my craft.

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

Asar: Miss Candice Presents…I swear we’ve got some of the best authors in the world.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

Asar: Urban Fiction, Romance, Erotica, and Paranormal/Supernatural.

Slyce: Have you penned under another name?

Asar: No, Asar is intertwined with Jerrell Smith. It’s a major part of who I am as a person.

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “Patrice & Zander”. What was this book about?

Asar: It’s one of my simplest tales. It’s about two people have been scorned by the love bug too many times to count and trying to find their way to opening their hearts again.

Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?

Asar: It’s a standalone, but since all my books are in the same Universe other than “Bitten” if you read my work than characters will appear & I give insight on what’s been going on with them.

Slyce: How important are interviews?

Asar: They’re very important! It allows us as authors to connect with our readers & for our readers to get to know us a little bit better.

Slyce: How important are reviews?

Asar: Reviews are TOO important! If it’s 1 or 100; reviews help us grow as authors, in my humble opinion. We need reviews! It goes hand and hand with any kind of product you’re putting out.

Slyce: How important is research?

Asar: Well, my Momma (there I go quoting my Momma again) always taught me that research is a must especially if you’re entering a new territory. With my vampire novel, “Bitten” I went through 2 months of research before I started writing. I wanted to be faithful to the subject I was writing on.
PS: Vampires don’t sparkle. 🤣

Slyce: What does the term, “Building a Brand” mean?

Asar: For me; it’s all about building yourself up to a standard that your readers and peers expect from you not just as an author but as a person as well. You yourself ARE the brand in my eyes.

Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?

Asar: Because I’m my own brand, every single day; it’s about engagement with new people (readers & authors) via work, home, and social media. For me it’s not hard building my brand because what you see online is how I am when I’m in front of you.

Slyce: How many books have you written?

Asar: {Laughs} As of right now….7 that are published and I’ve a few sitting on my flash drive in my pocket.

Slyce: Do you have any plans for expansion into films?

Asar: Yes! Very much so. I’d love to bring my books to life on screen, especially “Torn between Destiny & Desire”.

Slyce: Is there anything you’d like to change about the industry?

Asar: All the drama & infighting I see. I’m like the MJ popcorn meme, I’m always observing everything. The drama most times is over dumbness, different opinions, or most recently (book titles) and I don’t have time to debase myself by getting involved with the foolishness. I’m just for the betterment of African-American fiction as a whole and I think that’s a sentiment we can all agree with.

Slyce: What advice would you like to share with aspiring authors?

Asar: If this is your dream–if this is what you truly want than start and never EVER stop. Keep pushing until your name’s on the cover of that book of yours. If you want it, fight for it!

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Asar?

Asar: Well, I wanted to write something sexy so I’ve got my 1st series coming around the bend entitled, “Sex, Secrets, & Friendships”.
I hope that sounds appealing.

Slyce: Name three authors you’d love to work with

Asar: Miss’Candice Lewis; my Editor-In-Chief always brings the heat, so I think we could write something awesome together.
CN Phillips; I love her writing style and the way she makes her characters feel so real. I feel like we could tell an great story.
Geoff Johns; I’m just a avid comic book fan and if I could turn my novels into graphic novels…that would be pretty cool.
