Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?Author T.M. Pigatt

TP: My sister, Camille kind of inspired me to be an author. She turned me on to some books that she liked. I loved the way the books made me feel so I decided that I wanted to do something that made people feel and think. I thought books were the best way to go.

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

TP: My publisher is After Hours Publications.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

TP: I write interracial romance/suspense.

Slyce: Have you penned under another name?

TP: T.M. Pigatt is the only pen name I have.

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “Shattered Lives”. What was this book about?

TP: “Shattered Lives” is a book about a woman named, Samantha Clarkson, running away from her abusive past. On her way to starting a new life, she meets Charles Maxwell. Charles does everything in his power to make Samantha his, even though she tells him no. Little do they both know that her past wasn’t going to stay in the past.

Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?

TP: “Shattered Lives” is a four book series. Books 1-3 are about Samantha Clarkson and Charles Maxwell. Shattered Lives Four will be about Samantha’s friend Jackie Gibson.

Slyce: How important are interviews?

TP: Interviews are very important. It gives the reader an inside look into the author and the stories they write.

Slyce: How important are reviews?

TP: Reviews are very important. They allow the author to see what the reader is seeing. As an author, you want to make sure that you are giving the readers what they want, so that way you can stay on the right track or fix what was wrong in the next book.

Slyce: What does the term, “Building a Brand” mean?

TP: I’m new to the business so I’m still learning about this but I think it means building something that people know and trust. For example, if I were to buy a Stephen King book, I basically know what I’m getting just by seeing his name.

Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?

TP: First, I try to write books that are enjoyable for people to read. I want people to look at my name and say I can buy this book because I know this author is good. Second, I try to take a personal touch. Every time a reader leaves me a message, I respond to them. I thank them for taking the time out to read my work. Third, I personally send messages to everyone when I have a new book come out.

Slyce: What goals would you like to achieve as an author?

TP: I hope that I can bring people enjoyment as they read my books but most of all I want to bring hope. Most of the woman in my story will come from a bad background but they will find a way to survive and be better people because of it.

Slyce: What advice would you like to share with aspiring authors?

TP: The advice I would give to an aspiring author is never give up. Yesterdays no can turn in todays yes. Another piece of advice is to keep practicing your craft. The more you write the better you get. Last but not least, know what kind of writer you want to be and don’t sign a contact until you look it over good.

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author T.M. Pigatt?

TP: Yes, I’m finishing “Shattered Lives 4”, which will be the last of the Shattered series. I also have another book in mind as soon as I finish this book. My mind keeps coming up with stuff everyday.

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?

TP I write to make people think, feel and enjoy, so I guess you can say I write for passion. It does my heart good when I read a review and the person was happy that they took time out to read my work.

Slyce: Name three authors you’d love to work with.

TP: That’s a hard question to answer because there are so many good writers out there. I know one is Christine Sapphire Rose Gray, and the other two are Elisabeth Umba and Lizabeth Keen.
