Meet Author Lady Dia

Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah, Author Lady Dia to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my sistah :-). Are you ready?

Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?Author Lady Dia

LD: This may sound crazy, but I have a hard time calling myself an Author. It sounds so prestigious and official. I feel like I’m just exercising my gift. My biggest inspiration for seeking to publish “His Summer Her Storm” was my 9-year-old daughter. She is starting to realize and explore her talents, one of which is writing, and I didn’t want to be one of those parents that says, “I was a great writer back in the day, shoot if I would’ve… If I could’ve…”, no, I did because I can, and I did. I wanted to show her that all things are possible and that a gift is a gift, but it’s up to you to open it. I wanted to show her that, not tell her.

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

LD: I am currently published under Urban Chapters Publication with Jahquel J.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

LD: “His Summer Her Storm” is Urban Fiction, but I cannot say that I would never explore writing under other genres. I’ve got this murder/mystery swirling around in my head right now.

Slyce: Have you penned under another name?

LD: “His Summer Her Storm” is my first published book, but I have written plays and short stories penned under my Government.

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “His Summer Her Storm”. What was this book about?

LD: Ahhh! This question. I have a really hard time answering this question because I honestly never really knew what this book was going to be about, still don’t honestly. I don’t know if other authors relate to this because it is the weirdest thing to me, but I rarely know what I am going to write. I just sit down and start writing. If I had to answer the question I would say it starts off being about two people who are going thru similar circumstances in very different capacities, but then a chance encounter brings them in each other’s cross hairs. Once they meet, their lives collide and they find themselves wondering how in the world they have never crossed paths.

Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?

LD: This book is a 3-part series. Parts one and two are both currently available on Amazon. The last and final part 3 will be available soon.

Slyce: How important are interviews?

LD: Interviews are very important because it gives the readers a glimpse of who the author is. As an avid reader myself, sometimes we get so lost in the stories that we forget that they came out of someone’s imagination.

Slyce: How important are reviews?

LD: Reviews are very important as well because it gives someone that is thinking about reading the book a readers perspective. It also helps the author to maybe learn and grow if the author is mature enough to take constructive criticism. If the reviews are great, it helps the author to feel validated in their work and their efforts. For me, writing this book was not at all about making money. Writing this book for me was about sharing my gift with the world; hearing people tell me my work is amazing is very fulfilling.

Slyce: What does the term, “Building a Brand” mean?

LD: Building a Brand to me in the literary sense means having a responsibility to the work that you put out into the world. My book is my brand so before I submit my book I scrub it for edits making sure that my words are spelled correctly, that I’m not contradicting myself, I do my research on things that I’m not 100% familiar with to make sure that I know what I’m talking about because, again, my book is my brand I don’t want to half ass it. I am human and so is my editor so things can sometimes get missed, but I definitely work hard to keep it at a minimum.

Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?

LD: Right now, I’m more focused on finishing what I start more than I am building a brand. I definitely did all of the things that I mentioned above, but right now I am in the one step at a time season. I think we all go thru seasons in our life…well let me say it a different way, when you’re trying to learn and grow into the person that you have become you go thru different seasons. The key is paying attention to the season that you’re in to make sure that you focus on it, understand it and learn from it otherwise you may get stuck in Winter when you’re supposed to be on the beach. I literally just made that up and that was a dope ass metaphor.

Slyce: What goals would you like to achieve as an author?

LD: This is a question that I cannot answer at this point because as I mentioned before it’s hard for me to identify myself as an author. Maybe we’ll chat again on down the road and I will be able to answer that, so lets table this question for now.

Slyce: What advice would you like to share with aspiring authors?

LD: You can do it, but if you’re going to do it, do it.

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Lady Dia?

LD: I’ve always got stories swirling around in my head, as I mentioned before I’m thinking about penning a murder mystery. In my writing, I always try to have some sort of message so there’s another one that I’m thinking about penning before the murder mystery because the message is so powerful. Who knows!

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?
