Meet Author Fatima Munroe

Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah, Author Fatima Munroe to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my sistah :-). Are you ready?

Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?Author Fatima Munroe

FM: Inspiration comes from all over, but for me I’ve always wanted to write. My dream was temporarily deferred by real life, but when my father passed away I knew that I had to change something. His passing showed me how short life really was, and how I was allowing it to pass me by. From there, I wrote to work through my pain. I sent in my manuscript to a few publishing houses, and was led to my current publisher, who I’ve been with for a little over two years now.

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

FM: I’ve been with Urban Chapters Publications since March of 2015.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

FM: My published books are urban fiction, but I have a sci-fi romance that I work on during periods of writers block. It usually gets me back on track.

Slyce: Have you penned under another name?

FM: I have an urban erotica written under a second pen name, Mona.

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “Shoulda’ Let You Go”. What was this book about?

FM: “Shoulda’ Let You Go” is about Aphrodite, aka Apple, who is stuck between two men. It’s not the typical urban fiction story, more so what a lot of women go through when they’re in an abusive relationship that they know they shouldn’t be in, but can’t let go of. After a while, they begin to feel like that’s the best they can do, so they stay, even when Mr. Right comes along and shows them a better life.

Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?

FM: Standalone, thank goodness. Sometimes, certain characters can be draining when writing, and in this book, that character was Marko.

Slyce: How important are reviews?

FM: In my opinion, reviews are very important. Often potential readers will base their decision to read an authors work on their reviews. It also gives the author the opportunity to grow their craft.

Slyce: What does the term, “Building a Brand” mean?

FM: Brand building is imperative to any and all entertainers. Your brand is who you are and how you’re perceived by others.

Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?

FM: For me, it’s getting your name out there, taking advantage of the plethora of venues that are available, networking with other authors and decision-makers, marketing and building relationships.

Slyce: What goals would you like to achieve as an author?

FM: One of my resolutions for 2018 is to move in silence, so I can’t share my exact goals, but I will say that I would love to look back on my career as an author and know that my contribution has shaped the urban genre in a positive way.

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Fatima Munroe?

FM: Of course….I’ve got a lot in the works! Taking a step out on faith for a lot of my projects in the coming year, but what I can share is that I’m working on a new series, and my author interview coming up on January 10th from 8-9pm on iHeart radio. You can listen live on the radio here in Atlanta on Love 860, or on the iHeart Radio app: Love 860. Call In number is 404.355.8699.

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?

FM: A little bit of both. I’m a realist, so I’m going to go out on a limb and say that there aren’t many authors out here that are writing strictly for the love of writing. Yes, we’ll do a weekend giveaway for a couple of days, but if our books aren’t charting then we wonder if it’s us. I do love bringing a story in my head to the masses and enjoy reading how the masses perceive my work.

Slyce: Name three authors you’d love to work with.

FM: I’d love to work with Leo Sullivan, Cash, and Shan.

Slyce: Where can our viewers purchase your book?

FM: eBooks are available on Amazon and my website, and signed paperbacks can be purchased from my website.

Slyce: Is your book an eBook and/or paperback?
