Meet Author Chance

Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our sistah, Author Chance to “The Interrogation Room”!! Welcome my sistah :-). Are you ready?

Slyce: What inspired you to become an author?Author Chance

Chance: Seeking to escape my reality, coupled with loving to write, inspired me.

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

Chance: David Weaver Presents Publications

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

Chance: Urban Lit, Romance

Slyce: Have you penned under another name?

Chance: No

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “Mask Off: Wife of a Heartless Gangsta”. What was this book about?

Chance: This book is about a character named Rain who was sold by her mom, at the age of fourteen, to a man to settle a debt. This book follows her journey from abuse to survival. It chronicles her questions about her sexuality and growing into a woman who decides to live her life as she sees fit despite the danger of the streets and her heartless husband.

Slyce: Is this book a stand alone or a series?

Chance: A series

Slyce: How important are interviews?

Chance: I feel that interviews is one faucet towards success. It allows all readers to get to know you just a little.

Slyce: How important are reviews?

Chance: Reviews go hand in hand with interviews in my opinion. Interviews help people know about you and help the author know about their books. Every writer feels that their books should be #1, and reviews can help you get there.

Slyce: What does the term, “Building a Brand” mean?

Chance: It means having a way to make your work stand out from the crowd. It means leaving a lasting impression.

Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?

Chance: I’m still learning, so right now I’m researching and trying new things.

Slyce: What goals would you like to achieve as an author?

Chance: Number 1 on the NEW YORK BESTSELLER LIST while I’m living.

Slyce: What advice would you like to share with aspiring authors?

Chance: Be patient, have fun with it, and DON’T GIVE UP

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in the lab for Author Chance?

Chance: Most DEFINITELY! First, part 2 of “Mask Off: Wife of a Heartless Gangsta” is currently available. I’m currently working on a new series, working title (Not Definite): The Plug is the stick up girl. I aim to have 2-3 books in this series.

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or the profit?

Chance Most definitely the passion, seeing as I still have another month or so before my very first royalty check but also because writing is like breathing for me. On the other hand though, I also pray to see much profit so I can stop working for others and get my catering business back on and popping.

Slyce: Name three authors you’d love to work with.

Chance: Terri McMillan, James Patterson, Stephen King

Slyce: Have you ever done Blog talk radio?

Chance: No, although I did create one but didn’t know what in the world I was doing. Lol

Slyce: What was one of your biggest mistakes as a new author?

Chance: Signing a contract too early and also paying to be published when I should have stayed Indie. This second time around tho, I’m very grateful for my team #RFM.

Slyce: What does the phrase, Learn The Craft mean?

Chance: It literally means, if you want to be a writer, you must learn all the do’s and don’ts. You must research not only your subject matter but if you wanna be published, you must research the publisher and their company. You need to study the market for your genre and also must research your genre. Just because your characters are black doesn’t mean that it’s street lit, just like if some of your characters are white, it can still be a urban lit novel.
