Slyce: Brothers and Sistah’s, please welcome our brother Kipjo Ewers to “The Interrogation Room” !! Welcome my brother 🙂 You ready?…What inspired you to become an Author?kewers profile pic

KE: I was into writing since I was seven years old. I use to tell stories when I was a kid in school. Kids would laugh and get enjoyment out of it. It was my second grade teacher Mrs. Green who told me it was a gift and encouraged me to use it. As I got older I wrote stuff here and there, I created two comic books with my younger brother when I was in my twenties. After that I kind of lost my way and passion, and just went into corporate office life. Two years ago that passion can back and the idea to write a comic book came into mind, I wanted to create an original super hero origin story like none ever written. A personal loss for myself and my wife helped fuel that passion. After I wrote the story I was trying desperately to find an artist, and when I could not find one, my wife just said, “Why don’t you turn it into a novel.” So I did, and two years later I have written my second novel, and am now working on two more!

Slyce: What is the name of your publishing company?

KE:  EVO Universe.

Slyce: In what genre do you write?

KE: I write science fiction super hero novels, but a lot of people have said they tend to come with a thriller type aspect to them. I have a knack for keeping people guessing what happens next.

Slyce: You wrote a book titled, “The First” – What was this book about?

KE: “The First” is a superhero origin story of Sophia Dennison. Wrongly tried and convicted of the murder of her husband, she is executed in Texas via lethal injection. However Sophia does not die, she resurrects with superhuman strength, overpowering several correctional officers until she is brutally gunned down. But to everyone’s shock and dismay, she resurrects again. Completely healed, this time she is bullet proof and much stronger than her first death. She breaks out of prison and is on the run where she learns about her abilities and hunts for the answers as to who framed her for her husband’s murder.

Slyce: Have you ever penned under another name?

KE: Nope, Just Kipjo K Ewers.

Slyce: Have you done book signing, tours and/or blog talk radio?

KE: I have done some Blog Talk Radios earlier this year. With self-promoting especially by yourself it is very hard to be everywhere and do everything with a 9 to 5 job. But It’s getting easier now, and my wife has become my business manager to help me more, so I have some book tours in the works as well as signings. I hope to be a this year’s NYC Comic Con at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center handing out EVO Universe t-shirts to promote the series, so if you are going COME AND GET ONE!

Slyce: What advice would you offer to those aspiring to become an Author?

KE: 1) Write from the heart, your best work is accomplished when you write from what is inside of you.

2) Get people to read your work before you submit it, be open to their opinion, but remember that the final say in your work is you.

3) GET A GOOD EDITOR, readers DO NOT like misspelled words, or a ton of errors. I learned that the hard way when I went cheap on an editor with my first novel.

Slyce: What steps are you taking to build your brand?

KE: As I said, Twitter and Facebook have helped my immensely in getting my Brand out in front of people. I’ve also joined author sites, and reputable review sites to review my novels getting me more covers. There’s a site called Fivrr that I also use to hire people at a reasonable rate to promote my work. I will usually try any form of marketing once if I feel it will help get the work out about my work.

Slyce: What tools have you found most useful in distributing you material?

KE:  Facebook and Twitter have been my friend in getting the word out about my books. I have also become apart of Goodreads an as author. Recently I released a book trailer on YouTube that as been getting a lot of attention:

Slyce: How important are interviews?

KE: Interviews are important, I believe it tells readers about the work, and what goes into the work, and a bit about the author, and their mind set that went into creating stories. A good interview will open more readers to your work, and make the curious to see what it is all about.

Slyce: Is there a message you want your readers to get?

KE: Once very important quote that summarizes my stories is: “There is only one race…the human race. Embrace this truth and evolution can begin.” I believe as humans that we are technologically advanced, but we are not evolved. We are not evolved when we still live in a world were you still see color, race, and religion. Where we treat our sexual opposites (women) like they are less than us, or worse. An example of this is Star Trek, when Klingons identify themselves, they identify themselves as KLINGONS, not black or white, male or female, or one having five ridges and another six, they are just the Klingon race. And that is where we need to evolve to, where we see each and everyone one of ourselves as the HUMAN RACE, each deserving of the same love and respect that we would want for our individual selves. That is the message I want readers to get from my books. And we either get that message and EVOLVE…or we will eventually die.

Slyce: What does the term “building a brand” mean?

KE: Building a brand to me means implementing marketing practices to create a name, symbol or design that identifies and differentiates a product from other products . An effective brand strategy gives you a major edge in increasingly competitive markets.

Slyce: Is there anything else cooking in th lab for Author Kipjo Ewers?

KE:  I am currently writing a spin-off novel for one of my characters in a spin-off novel from my last book EVO Uprising. It will be coming out in 2016 and be titled EYE OF RA. I am also working on a dark romance type comedy novel, and a comic book series of my first novel titled “THE FIRST”. Also I just worked out a deal with Tantor Audio for both my first novels. So soon people will be able to get audio versions of my first two books!

Slyce: Do you write for the passion or for the profit?

KE: I write for passion mostly! I love the reaction when people leave reviews on the stories I have written. Don’t get me wrong, it is nice to make a profit, but there is something to be said when your work has the ability to transport someone out of their everyday life, and into your world for a couple of hours. What blows me away are those that literally comment that they binge read my novels for a full 24 to 48 hours! We’re talking some 300 to 400 page books!

Slyce: I’d like to thank guest Author Kipjo Ewers for joinin us tonight in “The Interrogation Room” !! Thank you my brother 🙂 You were wonderful !! Everyone please go purchase “The First” or any book by by Kipjo K. Ewers.  Also, please check out his Facebook page at: facebook icon.
